added these two pointers:
Karen Uhlenbeck, notes by Laura Fredrickson, Equations of Gauge Theory, lecture at Temple University, 2012 (pdf)
Simon Donaldson, Mathematical uses of gauge theory (pdf)
(if anyone has the date or other data for the second one, let’s add it)
His website says:
Survey “Mathematical uses of gauge theory” written approx 2004, published in the Encyclopaedia of Mathematical Physics, Ed. Francois, Naber, Tsou
I found that the year is 2006 and the title there is slightly different:
Gauge Theory: Mathematical Applications
I also included a link to the Science Direct page for the article.

Thanks!!
and I have copied it over to Donaldson’s “Selected writings” here
Let’s all do that with references. It’s just one extra copy-and-paste, but gives a mighty useful cross-linking.
Re #9 perhaps it’s better if you upload the file directly to the nLab given that there’s no doi link.
incidentally, this is about the reference Donaldson 2005. I am uploading the pdf now.
Also added pointer to:
(where the bundle-theoretic understanding of YM theory originates)
and brought the list of “reviews” into chronoogical order
Changed dead link as question was moved from Theoretical Physics Stackexchange to Physics Stackexchange.
Edit: I was thinking to create an own page for D=2 Yang-Mills theory (which currently is a redirect to D=2 QCD), because the special case allows for the Yang-Mills measure (see Two-dimensional Yang-Mills theory on Wikipedia), or would it be better to integrate that on D=2 QCD. In the same breath, I’ve thought about creating D=4 Yang-Mills theory with a detailed explanation of the (anti) self-dual Yang-Mills equations? Or does that also already exist somewhere else or should better be integrated on another page?
Yes, we should certainly eventually have a dedicated page for D=2 YM and not have it redirect to D=2 QCD.
added pointer to today’s
