The supersymmetric and rotation-invariant multi trace observables of the $N \times N$-BMN matrix model are precisely the values of su(N)-Lie algebra weight systems on Sullivan chord diagrams, namely on closures-with-permutations of horizontal chord diagrams:

and a big graphics illustrating this (here)

Still to be expanded further…

added a bunch of early references.

The earliest I have found that make explicit the correspondence of multi-trace operators on the gauge theory side to multi-particle/string excitations on the gravity side are Liu 98, p. 7, Andrianapoli-Ferrara 99, p. 13

I have polished and expanded the discussion of horizontal chord diagrams as multi-trace observables on the supersymmetric states of the BMN matrix model (here).

Since this discussion pertains also to other entries, I’ll move it to a bare entry

to be !include-ed into all relevant entries
