hm, the MathGenealogy page claims that Mather had a PhD thesis in 1966 titled “Products in spectral sequences and other topics”.
That need not contradict our claim (originating here) that “Paracompactness and partitions of unity”, was his PhD thesis in 1965, but it makes it a little suspicious
Wikidata also thinks (here) the PhD was in 1966, but doesn’t give a title.
Re #3: Dold lists this bibliographic entry
Mather, M. R.: Paracompactness and partitions of unity. Mimeographed Notes 1964. Cf. also Ph. D. thesis, Cambridge University 1965.
He does not claim that “Paracompactness and partitions of unity” is the title of his PhD thesis, it’s just a set of notes.
Which makes me think that the year 1965 in his reference is off by 1 and should by 1966.
