Andrew, only if you have an answer off the top of your head, please don’t waste any time on this, I’d just like to quickly check with you:

my personal web feels considerably slower than the rest of the nLab. In particular opening the page path oo-groupoid often takes more than half a minute. (The edit-version, on the other hand, opens quickly.)

Do you have an idea for why that is so? I am guessing one reason is that this page and others are longer than the average nLab page. But that can’t be the only reason. My page differential cohomology in an (oo,1)-topos is a good deal longer still, but my impression is that it loads, while not quickly, at least considerably quicker than the path-oo-groupoid-page.

    Strange, isn’t it?

Hard to say precisely, but a little look in the logs together with a couple of experiments suggests that the page takes a long time to convert. It’s not so much length as the amount of processing that needs to be done to render the page (when it isn’t cached, such as after an edit). I’d hazard a guess that it is the number of wikilinks that is the determining factor: for each wikilink, the software has to look up whether or not it is an existing page or a non-existing one and render it differently.

It’s late now so I’ll do the actual counts tomorrow.

    Okay Andrew, thanks.

As I said, please don’t waste any time on this.
