I just finished writing a comment in the measuring coalgebra thread, and was informed on the first go that my comment was 131 characters too long, so I cut it a little short. I’ve never seen that before; has anyone else? What is the character limit?
How many characters long did your comment end up being?
(I’ve moved this discussion to the n-Forum category.)
Is there an easy way to find out?
I assume that it’s this comment. So I copied the source to a text file and ran the Unix utility (actually GNU utility now) wc
on it: it has 5711 characters (all of which are ASCII). So the limit is , where is the number of characters that you removed after the error message.
The maximum comment length is currently set to 6000 characters. I’m quite happy to raise it further. There will always be some limit, though.
Thanks, Andrew – I expect it’s probably not necessary: that comment was a bit of an outlier. It merely took me by surprise.
