The terminology steady didn't catch on. People use "weakly constant" or "wildly constant".

I would really like to sort this out. If the nlab is to be authoritative, pages like this should be improved. I don't want to improve this particular page myself because I have a conflict of interest. But the terminology "steady function" was never used other than in a couple of discussions in mailing lists. Somebody looking at this nlab page may think that there is an established notion of steady function. But there isn't.

Okay — I have edited the page and its title to change all (hopefully) occurrences of “steady” to “weakly constant”.

But its awkward and risky for me to edit on a topic that I haven’t really looked at or thought about. It would be much better if an expert worked on improving this entry.

Since we are not talking about stocks here, there is no “conflict of interest” for experts to edit on topics which they are expert on. On the contrary, for the nLab to thrive and be, ideally, authorative we need experts to take initiative and edit on just those topics which they are expert on.

So please be kindly invited to make this entry yours!

If you strictly do not like to see your name appear in the page history then the software here is happy to accept any pseudonym. (You can put “abcd” if nothing else comes to mind.)
