There is now a brand-new homotopy type theory wiki, hosted as another web on the nlab server: HomePage (homotopytypetheory). There’s not much there yet, though. We’re still discussing its goals and policies and conventions.

Why is it separated from nnLab – the scope is supposedly so close ?

The nlab serves a different community and has a different point of view by default. Everything on the nLab is written with higher category theory in mind first, but it’s important for the HoTT folks to have a place where we don’t have to write or read like that, or worry about someone else editing what we write like that either. I also think many people would be intimidated to edit the nlab, but hopefully less so on a new wiki created just for them. Also, the nlab is open to all of mathematics, but we will concentrate on what is of interest to HoTT, and also to the HoTT community, like lists and discussion of open problems.

On the open question regarding a loop space of a wedge of circles, what about work on things like Hawaiian earrings or similar spaces? There the natural thing to consider is some sort of topologised fundamental group, and free topological groups on a space.

I’m not sure what you’re asking or proposing?

Just a trivial observation. I don’t even know if it is useful :-)

@4: David, in asking for ideas ‘about work on things like Hawaiian earrings or similar spaces?’ are you suggesting a strong shape extension of HoTT. ;-)

I just wondered if thinking about topological analogues of wedges of spheres indexed by types would help.

    at open+problems (homotopytypetheory) I have:

    • made model structure on semi-simplicial sets be a pointer to this nLab page (which links to a note by Benno addressing this problem);

    • fixed the typo on Seifert-van Kampen theorem and made it a link, too.

    • added a prefix “nLab:” to a few more links, so that they are not grey anymore. But then I stopped. Maybe the HoTT people won’t want this, I don’t know.

How do people see the relationship going between the wikis? E.g., what, if any, links should there be for a pair of entries such as higher inductive type and higher inductive type (homotopytypetheory)?

Could we share a page that acted as a ‘wikis on this site’ with links to the various different entities?

Fixing typos is good, but making gray links into links to the nLab is not good. I intentionally made those links gray because we may want pages about them on the HoTT wiki. To be honest, one of the reasons for having a separate HoTT wiki is so that it won’t be taken over by nLabbers.

Pages about the same subject should certainly be cross-linked, however.

DavidR, if you want homotopy type theorists other than me to hear your suggestion, this isn’t the right forum – try writing on the wiki page or posting on the mailing list. (-:

    I am here too. :-)

So, do we want the homotopy type theorists to join the nForum? Most of them are now used to github, not everyone will enjoy yet another forum. Incidentally, gitit is a wiki with a git backend, I am not sure about instiki. It seems a bit strange to first edit a page and then post a message that you did so on the nForum, but this is the way some people seem to work.

Think of the nForum as where you post your “commit” messages …

Strange ? Usually one wants to work in quiet at the beginning, and when some chunk is decently edited, to call for others to comment and improve. If one spends the energy of others too early not only interference will happen, but also lower excitement later in the phase when the feedback is called upon. Also, non-automatic messages have much more than a note that somebody edited a page (for a note only, we have “Recently revised” button).

I think it would be a bit much to try to convince all the homotopy type theorists to use a new forum at the same time as a new wiki. Let’s try to get them to use the wiki first. I think the traffic will be low enough that we don’t need a “latest changes”.
