    Added precursor References and briefly pointed to the Existence statement.

    Regarding precursors: apparently the idea to associate complex oriented cohomology theories with the Artin-Mazur formal groups of Calabi-Yau varieties in general dimension goes back to a lecture Michael Hopkins gave at the Midwest Topology Seminar in 1992. Is there any trace of that left?

    (Searching for this is tedious, because authors carelessly write “Calabi-Yau cohomology” also for the ordinary cohomology _of_CYs)

    but the link just goes to a site that shows the first few pages of the thesis and tries to sell you the rest. I don’t know if the full thesis is available, nor have I seen it. But judging from its table of contents and advisors, it ought to be relevant here.
