I was trying to upload a file to my nLab page, but got strange results. The filename was on the page but was still inactive. I then tried to delete the file, but that did not work either! (A bad start to the New Year!)

I was using the File uploads syntax for Instiki.

  1. I’ll look into it as soon as I get a chance, hopefully this evening European time. Could you please link to exactly which page it was (especially whether it was on your personal web or the main nLab) and provide the filename?

Hi Richard, Thanks and Happy New Year.

I was editing Tim Porter and had added new material after the item on Grothendieck’s letters. The file name was Spaces as Infinity-groupoids.pdf. (My various earlier attempts may have uplaoded other versions of that file, e.g. without the pdf extensions.)

Quite probably I got the syntax wrong but could not work out what exactly had happened.

    Hi Tim, happy new year!

The file was uploaded successfully, and I just linked successfully to it at the Sandbox. I think there may be an issue with the link showing immediately after an edit; I’ll look into that later. But in the meantime just making a trivial edit after the upload should fix it. I’ll check deletion later.

Yes, this has always been the case: After the file upload, one needs to make another edit (say a trivial one) to make the link actually appear.

(It used to be: “for the link to persist”, as recorded at HowTo here in step 7, since the link used to appear after return from the upload dialogue, and then disappeared upon any reload of the page. Since a while back it doesn’t even appear right after file upload. But it makes no difference, really, one just has to remember to make another edit in any case.)
