Yeah. This kind of edit happens fairly frequently. I think it’s evidently the result of hapless users playing around with the system to see how it works.

In the end it’s really our fault for not having a decent modern user-interface with intelligible user guidance. Instead the most elementary functionality of creating a new page on our wiki (or avoiding to do so!, which is the issue in the case at hand) takes a Rube-Goldberg worthy instruction.

As long as that’s the case, we will get edits like this, I expect.

  2. With the move to the cloud, now is a good time to make changes. How would you ideally envision page creation working?

PS - I’ll delete this page later.

I just mean how elsewhere on the web in the 21st century one has menu bars, graphical icons, dialogue boxes, etc. with which, these days, every six-year old navigates themselves through content editors like, say, WordPress offers.

I am not suggesting that you go and code a modern GUI in your spare time, though; it’s too large a task for spare time coding, I’d assume. On the other hand, I am still suggesting that use our donation funds for hiring somebody to work on such tasks full-time. That somebody might be you, if that’s a possibility for you. But if not, you could/should hire somebody to work on such things, following your instructions.

Most of this is client side, i.e. involves adding javascript and things like that, which has the advantage that anyone can try their hand at it without worrying about breaking something fundamental.

The first step, regardless of who was to implement it, would be to specify precisely what is desired, one feature at a time. It is easy to make a dialogue box pop up, but a developer, whether it be me or anyone else, needs to know under which circumstances, what the content should be, etc.
