Mallows kernels came up before. Ah yes, back in this discussion.

which allegedly defines the Mallows kernel, though I haven’t actually spotted it yet…

added the (previously omitted) parameter $\beta$ both in the definition of the Mallows kernel, and in the statement that it is positive (namely for all $\beta \geq 0$).
