  1. update info

didn’t know/remember this entry, but much more was out of date here.

The first block of information was material which we are keeping at the HomePage and we should not duplicate it in too many places, or else we will inevitably fail to update it again. So I have removed that block.

The whole page seems redundant. To the extent that there is useful information here that is not currently reflected on the HomePage, we should copy it over and then delete this page here.

Another page that seems redundant: Content

Thanks, right. Didn’t remember that we had that page, either.

I have “removed” it, as far as possible through the Instiki interface, and same for the page here.

Any information of the kind that was on these pages should be on (or else go to) the HomePage.

The articles might have been created because they are linked from the sidebar contents.

that sidebar contents is included in the HomePage, on the top right side of the page.

Thank’s for pointing this out. This content bar had last been touched a decade ago and was forgotten since (by me, certainly).

Looking at it now, I am also removing from contents the item

unless and until there is a way to keep this from being wildly outdated, and

since first of all it doen’s work anymore, and if it could be made to work, it wouldn’t make a good impression.

    A simple search query

     ncatlab.org site:arxiv.org

reveals hundreds of citations to the nLab from arXiv.

By my count, in the last 2 years over 100 arXiv preprints cited the nLab, with over 50 citations per year.

I don’t think there is any way to keep track of this, it probably makes sense to delete inbound citations.

    Yes, thanks.

Just to clarify that the page in question originates from the early days, many years ago, when the question first arose if anyone might have taken notice of the existence of our new wiki. For a decade nobody had touched this and the related entries that our anomynous guest has now kindly brought to attention here.

I’ll mark inbound citations for deletion now (hence renaming it with > history suffix, that’s all one can do without actually logging into the server).

Thanks for looking into this. Yes, it seems that all of these pages deserve to be cleared. If nobody else does, I’ll do it tomorrow.

Okay, I think I have dealt with them all.

If we have further ambition to improve the entry contents then we should look into improving (expanding) these entries that it points to:

    This page

    https://ncatlab.org/nlab/all_pages/meta

seems to list a few more that could be removed.

For example, exercise looks redundant and Contributors was last updated in 2013, a few more articles can probably be cleared, e.g., contents of contents.

    Have cleared “Contributors” now.

I had left exercise: We also have entries proof, theorem and conjecture, etc.. I think all of these could in principle contain useful material.

Also contents of contents could in principle be useful – in fact this kind of list might be the most useful content that contents could or should show! Of course in its current form it’s no good. But maybe somebody finds the energy to improve it.

On the other meta entries: Thanks for pointing this out. I might take care of more when I feel like I have a spare minute.
