(It’s curious how many of the original authors relegated the Born rule to a footnote – Pauli even crams the statement both of the Born rule and of Fermi-Dirac statistics into a single footnote. The first inkling that this is worth more than footnotes is maybe Jordan 1927, but the one who finally recognizes and highlights the relevance of the subject and devotes a whole part of a monograph to it is von Neumann in 1932, no less than five years after the “rule” was discovered.)
