Cross-linked with triangulation.
I have added an Idea-sentence in order to clarify up front what this entry is about. Also added more hyperlinks to technical terms, such as to category of cubes and to topological realization of cubical sets.
Not the greatest choice of term. There’s no Latin word cubulus.
Cubation, perhaps, or quadration.
Unfortunately, MathSciNet has 43 hits for “cubulation” and 0 hits for “cubation” and a single hit for “quadration”, in an unrelated context.
It’s a perfectly natural portmanteau cub[e]+[triang]ulation.
I once heard Max Kelly give an impromptu Latin lesson when someone used the word ’dilation’ in a talk, saying it should be dilatation, because it was derived from dilatare. Amusing, but perhaps not for the (junior) speaker.
