With the recent activity on Banach spaces, now seems like a good time to remind people that iTeX renders the spacing around norms and absolute values much better if you put braces around them. (Also include subscripts, superscripts, and \left
/\right
commands inside the braces.)
Thus \|x\|^2 + \|y\|^2
produces , while {\|x\|^2} + {\|y\|^2}
produces .
Thanks – I couldn’t remember the trick (although I could have remembered where to look had I thought harder about it).
I’m a frequent offender as well. I knew that there was something to do with placement of braces, but couldn’t remember what it was.
