I ’corrected’ the title of Serre’s criterion of affineness. I don’t like that word ‘affineness’!

I actually think “affineness”, however irritating it might be to lovers of Latin, is correct from the standpoint of mathematical grammar. That is, there is a long-standing mathematical habit of tacking -ness on to an adjective, to connote “the condition of being [that adjective]”. You should talk to Jim Dolan some time, to see what these sorts of grammatical considerations lead him to say!
