I was watching a Misha Gromov lecture and at the very end (24:43), Gromov mentioned that he thinks n-categories are the structures in mathematics closest to what is going on in the mind. Unfortunately, he didn’t have any time to explain why. Well, he did give one justification, but he said it so quickly that I couldn’t catch what it was: “the b-class ring(?) is (an) instance of this numerical idealization of 2-categories”. I added the lecture in which this appears and a link to Gromov’s ergosystems work to biology and Mikhail Gromov.
Some years ago Ronnie and I were involved in a project with various neuroscientists. The paper was one of the ideas we tried to explore. Ronnie has some other related work on his website.
