In the past, we have discussed where to host the nLab, and one idea that I have had is nearlyfreespeech.net, because it is based on paying for what you actually use and so is cheaper for small sites than most hosts. But that was not possible, since you couldn't run Ruby on Rails (or any persistent process besides MySQL) there. Now that has been changed, so we should be able to host an Instiki installation there.
I just noting this for the record, because I don’t think that we're having any trouble with costs or otherwise looking to move.
Would be good to look into this.
Another idea in the past was that we wait whether Mike and his crowd win some grant they had applied for, since Mike knew somebody at CMU or such who apparently promised to host the nLab on an institute server in that case. I forget which grant that was, but I suppose it was the MURI grant which indeed has been awarded.
Mike might be too busy to see this here. I’ll email him.
[edit: yes, so this is still in the making, we should wait a bit more]
