I have added to the entries
warning that there is also the respective other author, in the same field.
We had attributions mixed up in at least one case, namely Whitehead theorem used to be listed at George Whitehead instead of at J. H. C. Whitehead. (May fault, probably. I have fixed it now.) Somebody might want to check for further inconsistencies.
Also I made John Whitehead another redirect to J. H. C. Whitehead.
I have never heard him referred to as John Whitehead as I understand he always used Henry, but adding in the redirect does no harm.

I try to follow the convention that pages in category:people for people having more than one forename are titled “firstforename lastname”. So that made me type
[[John Whitehead]]
at some point, without further thinking about it. When I got a broken link in reaction, I realized that something needs to be done.
I am happy to stick with “Henry Whitehead”, but since it’s insider information which name he preferred, I think it is good that now “John Whitehead” also redirects there.
In the U.K., some people have a tradition of using other than their first listed forename. Ronnie always refers to J. H. C. W. as Henry, so that is ’insider’ as Ronnie knew him personally. Out of interest what determines the order of the ’first names’? Any ideas, anyone? I only have one forename so the order is not a problem for me.
Frank Adams first forename was John! Terry Wall is C.T.C.Wall so Terence is his second forename. Zeeman was always called Chris Zeeman yet is E. C. Zeeman, and so on.
There are people in the U.S. who go by their middle names too. J.P. May (“Peter”) comes to mind.
I’m not sure what you mean by “what determines the order of the first names”. Surely when their parents named them they wrote down all their names in a particular order?
I know of some parents who have picked names according to family tradition, e.g. first name Paternal Grandfather/mother, second name Maternal ditto, then a name the parents like and so on.. In some families they go even further in the family history. I do not know how parents decide in cases of larger families…. My parents just gave one name to each of us children and they were not names in the family as such. The matter is just a curiosity.
