   Format: MarkdownItexI don't think that it is possible to add comments in to the source code. I think that this is viewed as being a way for spammers to insert keywords without being noticed (since such comments can get indexed by unwary search engines).

I couldn't copy-and-paste that and start merrily typing away, even with just deleting the stuff above the horizontal rule. On the other hand, I think that an example page is much more useful (and explicitly linking to its source is a stroke of genius). Under the Lore of "If it's broken, fix it", I've modified the page to split these two functions. The main content is declared to be an example, and I've put a skeletal template in at the end (which can be cut-and-pasted without having to go to the source code).
