I don't understand the rules for itex's "aligned" environment. Sometimes it seems to right-align the first column and left-align the second, which is what I would expect. But other times it seems to randomly decide to center both columns. Is there some subtlety of the syntax I am not aware of?

Do you have examples of this that you can point to? Can you reproduce it in the Sandbox?

Try comparing the XHTML output of the two situations. It is feasible that it is a browser issue rather than an itex issue (not that I know much about that, but it's worth checking before hassling Jacques).

On this page all the displayed sets of inequalities are aligned. On this page the very last displayed set of equations are centered. Currently, in my browser (Firefox 3 in Ubuntu Linux). However, sometimes editing the page and making no substantive changes appears to switch the output from one behavior to the other. At the moment, nothing I do in the Sandbox can make it appear centered.

I don't see any substantial difference between the XHTML output; both include

<mtable columnalign='right left right left right left right left right left' columnspacing='0em'>

which looks as though it should do the aligning correctly.

Okay, maybe this is a browser issue; after making this post, I went back to the second page linked above, without having made any changes to it, and the equations were once again aligned.

I tried both pages just now, and they both came out wrong at first; after forcing a reload on each page, it came it came out correctly. (I'm also using Firefox 3 on Ubuntu!) So it's the browser, but reloading probably helps.

Using Galeon on Ubuntu I don't see anything wrong. However, I have found that I've needed to force a refresh to get the stylesheet to implement properly before so maybe it's a cache issue. If it occurs frequently then maybe it's worth an FAQ entry.
