In trying to figure out what it could have been beforehand, I notice that there’s a forum software called “nforum”. Perhaps we should be running that instead of our current software …
I tried. It is not on all googles. It is fifth on the one I tried it on.
Google search results use your previous searches to “improve” search results so any two people will not have the same Google search results. This deeply disturbed a friend of mine. He noticed when every search for a technical term came back with something related to cricket :)
You can delete your cookies to see ‘raw’ Google results, although your location (at least for censorship of results if not for rankings) and language settings (for rankings between pages in different language) can also influence the results.
Or use Scroogle, which queries Google through its own proxy. (The purpose of Scroogle was not to give consistent rankings, but it is often used for that.)
This deeply disturbed a friend of mine.
(PS: The actual purpose of Scroogle was for people whom Google deeply disturbs in general.)
Yes, I've tried this on several computers, and it seems that the nforum is actually the first result.
