    I have just edited the CSS for the main nLab (and also for Doriath, where I tested it first) so that wide math displays will automatically get a horizontal scroll bar. See this in action (unless you’re using a very small font or a very wide window) at model structure on simplicial presheaves. (The examples there already had scrollbars, put in by hand, but now they come from the lab’s CSS.)

    Please report any bugs that this causes.

    In case of emergency, high-powered lab elves can undo this change by removing this line (currently the last line) from the Stylesheet tweaks under Edit Web:

    div.maruku-equation {overflow:auto;}

    H’m, looks like we get very small vertical scrollbars that are not necessary. I’ll leave it up for a while so that people (such as Jacques) can look at it.

    For a better look at the unnecessary vertical scroll bars, try adjunction.

    Yep yep. Was about to mention the unnecessary vertical scrollbars too.

    Well, I think that it’s time to roll back this change. It will be a few hours until I’m at the computer that I can do this from, but somebody else could do it in the meantime. (But keep it on doriath for testing purposes.) I’ve already fixed model structure on simplicial presheaves so that it will continue to have scroll bars.

    Here is a testing page on doriath: scroll bars (doriath)

    I’ve rolled back the change.

    I tried using ’overflow-x’ and ’overflow-y’ but couldn’t figure out the correct method so just removed it for now.

    By the way, firebug is a fantastic tool for experimenting with CSS as it lets you change the CSS of something “live” without having to go through the hassle of changing it on the server each time.

    OK, thanks Andrew, I’d just logged in to roll it back, but you already did so!
