have fixed the formatting. You can play around in the Sandbox to familiarize yourself with how things work here.

    in particular:

    • indention by more than five or so is interpreted as \verb

    • the character * is a markup command here,

for bullet items if its the first symbol in a line

as well as for italics (as in *...* – and **...** gives boldface)

    • to get the asterisque as output, it’s safer to type \ast (in math mode)

    on formatting:

house style is that entry names are lower case unless the entry is labeled as category:people or category:reference and its title coincides with a name of a person or of a text

    on strategy:

it’s not clear to me that your material here is usefully had in a stand-alone entry. This depends on how much it will grow. But unless and until it has grown to a substantial account, it would seem to better be a Properties-subsection at GNS construction

Syntax tip: don’t use TeX-style quotes, since the markdown thinks the backtick is a command analogous to \verb, but regular " on both sides

Thanks for the edits/suggestions and sorry for the spam! I was, indeed, looking for something like the sandbox. Do you know of any tools to help with the conversion from tex to nLab-style extended markdown? I was hoping a simple awk/sed type script conversion would be enough.

True, just give me some time, I'm copying over select snippets of my notes and I didn't want to spam the GNS rep. main article until it's clear what it's become. Give me a week or so to move things over. If it turns out to be something small I'll merge it.

Thanks for your reply, no problem.

Now that you have created the new entry, you may as well play with it, instead of in the Sanbox. When you feel you are done, we can make a decision whether to keep it separate or merge back into the main entry.

Regarding scripts: As far as I know there is no automated way to turn LaTeX sources into what we need here. That would surely be useful.

(On the other hand, such a script would have to be exceedingly well-done not to require lots of intervention, and maybe as long as it isn’t top notch such scripts would just tempt people to dump badly formatted material. Not sure.)

Fixed some minor markdown issues; renamed in entirely lowercase format.

Thanks, but let’s make “GNS” capital again.
