  1. The nLab and nForum were both down today from around 08:00 CET to a little before 16:00 CET. The entire server at CMU which hosts both was unresponsive. No details yet on what happened, I’ll update once I know more.

It seems that this was a consequence of planned maintenance at CMU. Our setup is such that we have to simply accept this (the cloud would avoid such problems, but comes with a cost). We have asked to be notified in advance on future occasions.

  2. Tim (Porter) mentioned privately that the nLab and nForum may have been down briefly this morning (European time). Did anybody else notice anything? I would like to keep track of any such occurrences.

[ re-using this old thread, in light of recent events ]

Since people are wondering (such as on Twitter), let me say:

The nnForum just came back, but the nnLab is still down. Richard will have seen it. Let’s wait that he finds time to bring it back.

The server is currently over-worked. I do not have time to look into it properly just now unfortunately, but may take this as the point at which we have to say goodbye to the old server. I will review again this evening European time, but may make the decision to abandon the old server and get something up in the cloud.
