Should we provide Chenchang with her own web for this kind of thing?
(original comment redacted, but doesn’t seem to be a good use of the nLab)
Hmm, my impression was that it is not spam, Chenchang links to it from her page Chenchang Zhu.
She has generated pages for those courses on her page. It always struck me as odd to want to do so without any attempt to link to the rest of the nLab.
Agree that it probably is not appropriate for the nLab itself. I suppose it would be fine on a web for Chenchang herself, but I’ll follow whatever people wish. If we go for that, I can create the web and move Chenchang’s pages there, and we can try to get in touch with her to ask her to use that newly created web for this kind of thing. Just let me know how to proceed.
I agree that the nLab doesn’t really seem appropriate for this. The other “courses” listed on Chenchang’s page are seminars or lectures on subjects of relevance to the rest of the nLab, so those seem more appropriate.
However, I also think our current policy is that people need to be engaged with the community on some level before we will make them a personal web. Does that apply to Chenchang? I have not seen her participating at the nForum or elsewhere on the nLab.
What about the role of the nForum Notices page? This is a bit neglected at present and could be better used perhaps. She could post the announcement there.
Thanks for the reminder. I had wanted to get back to this already on the last occasion. But somehow I always got distracted by other things. Now I have just sent an email around to Chenchang and cc-ed to all of you. (If it doesn’t show up, then I probably picked the wrong out of half a dozen email addresses that my gmail remembers for some of you…)
I didn’t receive it, but that’s no doubt no problem! Just let me know if I should do something.
Sorry my bad. I have sent it now.
@9 No sign of the e-mail.
My preferred address for maths related messages is: t.porter.maths@gmail.com. The old one at Bangor.ac.uk no longer exists. Can people here just recheck their e-mail address books and delete the old one as I know that when in a hurry it is easy to accept whatever the mail system gives one as a first choice! Thanks.
No sign of it for me either, but then you may have only meant for those who already posted here…
Sorry, I guess I am not fully concentrating on this. We should have done this as usual via a SteeringCommittee thread, instead.
