I have spelled out the proof (here) of the claim from
that the stabilizer in the automorphism group of the octonionic Albert algebra “of a 4d Minkowski subspace” happens to be the exact gauge group of the standard model of particle physics.

Is it okay if we keep using both dialects, or should I get into the habit of adopting the new one?
No problem at all (for me at least!) using the old form, use whatever you prefer :-). I just wished to check that the new syntax worked OK on this example.
