there is a very friendly user signing as “Anonymous Coward” who looks after entries of which I have announced edits here and fixes typos. Whoever this is, I appreciate it a lot, but I have one plea:
it happens very frequently that I click “edit” among one of the set of entries that I am currently working on and the software alerts me
Anonymous Coward has been editing this entry for 24 minutes. Do you want to edit anyway?
Originally when this happened I clicked “Cancel”, went to brew a coffee and then came back. But more often than not, it would then say
Anonymous Coward has been editing this entry for 43 minutes. Do you want to edit anyway?
And so on. So I would keep trying and at some point the block would disappear. More often than not I would curiously check the entry for all the new edit that were made anonymously in the last hour … only to find often that there were no edits at all.
After this happened a few times, and after I did see some helpful edits do appear every now and then, I figured what was going on was probably this:
the kind anonymous user would use the “edit” button to look at the source code, but often decide that no edits were necessary anyway and turn to the next entry… without however hitting “Cancel”. That leaves the entry blocked then.
Therefore I would like to ask this anonymous user (and everybody else):
if you just want to see the source code of an entry and not edit it, don’t hit “edit”. Instead, hit “source”.
If you did hit “edit” and decide not to edit anything after all, please don’t forget to hit “Cancel” before you leave.
Thanks!
Also, it really is nice if you sign your full name and use it to make a page on yourself. But this is optional; we are grateful for your helpful edits in any case!
